as mentioned by Simeon, I am afraid this is not correct.  datestamp in version 2
of the protocol is a property at the level of the metadata, not at the level of
the item.  so, different metadata records available from the same item can have
different datestamps.  in version 1 of the protocol all such records had the
same datastamp.  a subtle, but truly important nuance.
