I guess one way is to use the Celestial (oaia) implemented by Tim Brody.

http://celestial.eprints.org

It harvests 1.x data providers, caches the data, and exposes them in
2.0's way.

So 2.0 applications can use Celestial to harvest 1.x compliant data
providers.
